Information in English about water supply and waste water handling

Invoicing twice a year

Water supply and waste water handling is invoiced twice a year, with due date in the beginning of April and the beginning of October. Customers with a water meter installed should read this in December. The charges for water supply and waste water handling are to be paid in advance. If you have paid too much or too little for one year, the amount will be settled in the next years invoice for the first term.

New owner will be automatically registered

When selling or buying real estate the new owner will be automatically registered in our systems as soon as the transfer of ownership is officially recorded. There is no need to notify us separately. It is the one who is registered as the official owner at the time of invoicing that will receive the bill for water supply and waste water handling.

Settlement between the old and the new owner

Settlement between the old and the new owner is normally handled by the real estate agent. If the sale is carried out without an agent the old and the new owner must make up among themselves. The municipality has no responsibility for this settlement.

Unpaid fees are statutory encumbrances on the property, and the municipality has legal mortgage for these fees. This means that unpaid fees may be collected through forced sale of the property.

Septic tanks

Some properties have private septic tanks. These will normally be unnecessary, and the owner may, through an approved plumbing company,  submit an application to the municipality to get the permission to disconnect the septik tank. This will generally be approved, and the owner will be saved future costs for draining the tank, as well as the practical and environmental disadvantages  that may arise in connection with draining such tanks.

Private water pipes and drains

The owner of the property is also the owner of the private water pipes and drains underground, between the house and the municipal water pipes and sewerage system, and is responsible for replacing or repairing any damage that might occur.
