Domestic assistance

Description

You may apply for domestic help if you need assistance in cleaning, shopping or personal care. It is the municipality in association with you that decides which services are to be supplied. The aim is that you shall be able to live at home.
 

Criteria/conditions

You have a right to assistance if you are unable to care for yourself or are dependent upon practical or personal help in daily tasks. Reasons include age, sickness, disability or drug abuse.

Price

If the domestic assistant has to assist you with personal care (visits to the toilet, getting up, getting dressed/undressed etc.), the service is free of charge.

Administrative procedure

Guidelines – applying for, or receiving the service

You may contact the municipality for assistance in applying for domestic help, or you may ask another person to do this if you require. If someone else applies on your behalf, he or she must present a power of attorney signed by you.

Administrative procedure

The municipality will obtain the information necessary to determine the application. Normally, a visit in the home will be made. A decision will then be passed. Normally, you will receive a reason at the same time. You will always be given a reason if there are grounds to believe that you may not be satisfied with the decision. If a reason is not given, you may then contact the municipality within the time limit for any appeal.

Administration time

The municipality will consider the application at the earliest opportunity. If the matter cannot be determined within one month. you will receive written information with the reason for this. At the same time you will be informed when a decision is expected to be made.

Possibilities to appeal; procedure

If you are not satisfied with the decision, you may appeal to the municipality within three weeks of having received the decision. Explain why you are not satisfied and why you feel that the decision should be changed. If you need advice, you may contact the municipality. If the municipality upholds its decision, the matter is sent to the county governor, who will decide whether the appeal shall be allowed.
