Teaching hours and educational content in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools
Description
The Ministry of Education and Research has prepared a subject plan and timetable showing how many hours are to be devoted to each subject in the various grades, and which combinations of subjects are possible. This is part of the Knowledge Promotion Reform Programme for Schools that commenced in 2006. The school management is obliged to document that the school is adhering to this programme. The school shall ensure that the pupil develops basic skills, including:
- oral skills
- written skills
- reading
- arithmetic
- use of digital equipment.
These skills are integrated into the teaching programme for the different subjects. The teaching programme has clear objectives for what the pupil shall be able to master in the various grades. If the pupil does not progress sufficiently during normal lessons, he/she has the right to special education.
You may make enquiries with the county governor, who has the responsibility for supervising the Education Act if you consider that the school is not providing education in accordance with the Knowledge Promotion Programme.
Cooperating authorities
The county governor is responsible for ensuring that the school fulfils its obligations under the Education Act and associated regulations, and that teaching is in accordance with the Knowledge Promotion Programme. The county governor can instruct the school to correct any failings in this matter.
