Care benefit
Description
If you have care responsibilities that are particularly demanding, you may apply for care benefit. This is a supplementary salary that provides some financial compensation for the care responsibilities you are carrying out. The municipality determines whether you are entitled to care benefit, and what the level of recompense shall be.
Criteria/conditions
You must carry out particularly demanding care work. Aspects taken into consideration are:
- whether your care activity occupies many hours each month
- whether the care activity is more physically or psychologically demanding than normal
- whether much night work is involved, or your sleep is interrupted
- whether the care activity results in social isolation and limited leisure time

You may contact the municipality for assistance in applying for care benefit. Both the person providing the assistance and the recipient may apply for care benefit.
Administrative procedure
The municipality will obtain the information necessary to determine the application. A decision is then passed. Normally you will receive a reason at the same time. You will always be given a reason if there are grounds to believe that you may not be satisfied with the decision. If a reason is not given, you may then contact the municipality within the time limit for any appeal.
Administration time
The municipality will consider the application at the earliest opportunity. If the matter cannot be determined within one month, you will receive written information with the reason for this. At the same time you will be informed when a decision is expected to be made.
Possibilities to appeal; procedure
Both the person providing assistance as well as the recipient may appeal any resolution. An appeal has to be made within three weeks of receipt of the decision. Explain why you are dissatisfied and why you consider that the resolution should be changed. If you need assistance, you may ask the municipality. If the municipality upholds its decision, the matter will be sent to the county governor, who will decide whether the appeal shall be allowed.
