Establishment grants for housing

Description

You may apply for a housing grant if you are in a difficult financial situation and require support to obtain a basic, suitable residence. You may also obtain a grant if you need to carry out essential improvements to your own property. Grants are means-tested. In special circumstances, a grant may be given in connection with refinancing in order that you may retain your house, normally in combination with a start-up loan.

Target group

This grant is intended for:

  • Physically handicapped persons
  • Refugees
  • Young persons in an establishment phase
  • Persons with particular social problems

Criteria/conditions

The house shall be modest both in respect of size and expenditure. Further, the property shall be particularly suitable in the event of physical disability.

Guidelines – applying for, or receiving the service

The application shall be made on form HB 8.S.01. You may obtain this from the municipality or via the link below.

Appendix/supplement

  • Statement concerning projected future income
  • Copy of the latest tax returns (for several years)
  • Statement of own capital (cash, bank holdings or means which may be released from the sale of property or other capital)
  • Social report, doctor’s statement or other documentation on the particularly difficult situation of the household

Administrative procedure

The municipality will obtain the information necessary to determine the application. A decision will then made. Normally, you will receive a reason at the same time. You will always be given a reason if there are grounds to believe that you may not be satisfied with the decision. If a reason is not given, you may then contact the municipality within the time limit for any appeal.

Administration time

The municipality shall deal with the matter as soon as possible. If the matter cannot be decided within one month, you shall be informed of this in writing.  At the same time, you must be informed when a decision is expected to be made.

Possibilities to appeal; procedure

If you are not satisfied with the decision, you may appeal within three weeks of having been informed. Explain why you are dissatisfied and why you feel the decision should be changed. Supply any new information. The appeal will be handled by the municipality’s appeal board.
