Grants for housing improvement and adaptation
Description
If you have a need for especially adapted accommodation, you may apply to the municipality for a grant to cover some or all of the extra costs. A grant is made for small changes in your current accommodation or if you are going to build or purchase a property. If you have received a grant from the National Insurance Administration to purchase a car, the grant may also be used for a garage. It is also possible to apply to the State Housing Bank in advance for a grant for planning.

This grant is intended for:
- Physically handicapped persons
- Persons with particular social problems

An evaluation will be made of your particular needs for adaptation and of the overall financial situation of the household.

Guidelines – applying for, or receiving the service
The application shall be made on form HB 8.S.01. You may obtain this from the municipality or via the link below.
Appendix/supplement
- Statement concerning projected future income
- Copy of the latest tax returns (for several years
- Statement of own capital (cash, bank holdings or means which may be released from the sale of property or other capital)
- Social report, doctor’s statement or other documentation on the particularly difficult situation of the household.
Administrative procedure
The municipality will obtain the information necessary to determine the application. A decision will then be passed. Normally, you will receive a reason at the same time. You will always be given a reason if there are grounds to believe that you may not be satisfied with the decision. If a reason is not given, you may then contact the municipality within the time limit for any appeal.
Administration time
The municipality will consider the application at the earliest opportunity. If the matter cannot be determined within one month. you will receive written information with the reason for this. At the same time you will be informed when a decision is expected to be made.
Possibilities to appeal; procedure
The Municipal Appeals Board considers all appeals. An appeal must be made within three weeks of having received the information. State what you wish to be changed in the decisionand supply any additional information supporting this.
